What backup vendor/solution would you recommend for cloud backups?
I'm looking at some off-site (cloud) backup vendors like BackupMyInfo.http://www.backupmyinfo.com/services/ I'm looking for other vendors that provide this type of service for a small business environment: Servers: 5-10 Storage: 300GB to 1TB Retention Policy: ---- Days: 7-14 days ---- Weekly: 4-6 weeks ---- Monthly: 12-24 months I'm interested in solutions that would have an appliance onsite where the backups are initially captured, and then replicated to an off-site (cloud) facility via some scheduling to minimize bandwidth consumption. Cost is always a factor, of course...

You could look into Data Domain, Avamar, or Mozy. Shoot me an email and I can explain further.
your data requirements fall in SMB line of business
try this
http://www.nasuni.com/
gateway to cloud NAS, i personally love the concept
pay less initially and pay as you grow
another great feature, u dont need special hardware for this(no vendor lock in)
a similar one is from veritas as well

Veritas Storage Foundation Scalable File Server (SFS
What type of data are you "protecting" (database, application data/files, or all) ? Will you reinstall, or restore the system from backup in the event of losing the OS ? Do you have any RTO/RPO requirements ? Also, what OS(s) are you backing up ?
I'm currently researching requirements similar to yours :)
This could assist. Using EMC's best of breed products we have incorporated a Service Catalog for On-Site and Off-Site (Cloud) Backup / Archiving Solutions.

Since budget is very important to a small and medium size businesses, they tent to outsource their IT department, to find better solutions. I would recommend any company with such situation to build their own Backup system, on the long run it would be cheaper.
Just a recomendation.

Andrew,
My company provides Storage and Storage solutions and we represent a number of solutions for backing up data into the Cloud. We have solutions that just backup your data into the Cloud and also have solutions that virtualize your servers into the Cloud and provide you not only backup services but also failover and failback services; thus giving you a guarantee of uniterrupted service.
For your initial request, we have a product from Digi-data corporation that provides you an onsite appliance fro capturing your daily backup, or daily changes to your backups. At a schedule determined and set by the customer, this data will be backed up to the Cloud. Most of our customers backup to the Cloud during offhours to limit bandwidth usage during peak times. THe onsite appliance can be purchased, or rolled into the monthly charge for storing your data in the Cloud. Typical prices range in the $325.00 per month fro 500GB to $465.00 permonth for 1TB of data.
If interested in our solution you may contact me directly at (954) 752-5805 for a discussion and webX on this solution.

DigiData's SAFE product is a good solution for SMB environments. It provides 2 stage backup, on-site appliance and then copy to a secure off-site cloud that can be scheduled. On-site retention time can be controlled and is mainly a function of disk space on the appliance. Scalability is managed by implementing multiple appliances. They have a well designed web interface that lets you control the environment and integrates with any backup solution that can access disk as a tape target. They sell mainly through VARs and the VARs are trained and able to provide management of the backups if you require that. They also have a proprietary backup software that you can purchase if you need an agent locally. They provide file sharing as part of the solution. Additionally, they have a desktop/laptop/mobile-device backup solution, LEAPDrive, that has desktop agents for Windows and Mac and backs up directly to the cloud. It provides the ability for the user to retrieve their own files as well as share files with other users. Pricing is reasonable and the company has been in the storage business for over 20 years. Backup my info is an outstanding cloud based backup service provider.
There are others such as Terremark, RestorePoint, Remote Backup Systems, Renovo Data, Site 2, Venyu, SunGard, Dakota Backup, XiloCore, EVS, TPartners, and many others.
I understand you are cost sensitive; however,be careful. There are a lot of providers that are cheap, but do not necessarily provide the recoverability you really require. Remember, the backup process is a means to an end. The End is being able to get your data when there is a problem.
There is no free lunch in this business. But, in the end you need to have a service that will provide you the RPO, RTO, and recoverability you really need.
Backup My Info is an excellent choice with an impeccable track record.
Cheers
Marc
