What brand do you trust for business computers?

Some companies I talk to swear by Dell, others are HP die-hards, and some even say that a hardware brand doesn’t matter so long as you have quality software. What do you think? What brand would you recommend to a small office looking for new machines?

Doesn't matter too much so long as you have good warranties and the machinery has good support and reliability. We use Dell, IBM, HP and ASUS workstations and HP and DELL servers. All the workstations from the big three are under next day onsite warranties for repair. Information is backed up across the network so we're abstracted from dependence on the workstation

Having said that we had a few Gigabyte boards and they never performed up to the benchmarks so we settled on Asus as our whitebox brand of choice.

No love for Mac's??? I've heard the argument a thousand times about Mac vs PC, but I guess it always comes down to what type of business you run. Most graphics designers these days prefer Mac's and most IT companies continue to use PC. It comes down to preference, but in my opinion, dells have always done pretty well from my experiences. I would do your own research and figure out the pros and cons between both. After all, YOU are the one who is going to be operating the machine, so might as well figure out what you like best.

You make some great points. I agree with you about operating the computer ourselves, so we might as well do our own research, but I was hoping to hear a little feedback from the community. I haven't done enough research myself to figure out which companies offer the best prices for multiple orders and if there's specific benefits in there return policies. Anyways, thanks for your feedback.

My personal preference is HP. I would recommend Dell as a distant second. I have had great experience with HP all around, including great customer service. Dell, on the other hand fails miseably in the customer service area.

Funny thing is most of the boards and parts are manufactured in is the same factories for most brands from what I understand. This is especially true from Laptop systems.

It really boils down to service. Who is going to offer you the services you need and the best service at the best price. I am partial to Dell. Especially if you can get a good local account rep. Just make sure you do research on the specific product since designs in different products can vary from the same manufacturer. It is not the manufacturer of the system. Many times it is the design of the specific system you purchase.

Talk to people who are using the same equipment you are interested in. Get their experience with the product. Google the product and look for reliable reviews and feedback from reputable tech sites. If you want self service with Warranties try Dell's Refurb and Return site. They have great deals. Just watch the waaranties and return policies to see if you are OK with them.

If Customer Service and Tech Support (Phone) are a big priority. HP is moving all of their support back to the States. Dell Commercial support is in the States and Canada currently. With Dell you have to buy a commercial product to use Commercial support so if this is important pay attention to the model you are buying. You will usually get better service and support from any manufacturer buying a business model. I even buy business models for personal use.
