What criteria would make you choose a lower salary/benefit package over a bigger salary?

Let's say you were offered positions at a large company with a bigger salary and better benefit package, and a smaller company with more responsibility/authority but a less attractive package. What kinds of opportunities/perks/exposure/growth at a smaller company might motivate you to choose that offer? I'm especially interested in hearing responses from people in marketing, content development, and financial services.
