What is data management and how does it relate to BI?

How would you define data management? How are data management and business intelligence related? Is it possible to have one without the other?

Hi Dennis,

Data management is for store/access data such as running a database (IBM DB2, Informix). A BI is a front end solution to your data where it takes the data you have from your database and make sense out of it, as well as predicting future by analyzing these historical data. So you can definitely have a data management (database) running, but in order to have BI, you do need at least one database to get the information from. Most users actually have multiple databases and load data into one centralize data warehouse where BI will take all the data from versus it goes to each individual databases to fetch data. Hope this helps a little.
