What is the difference between cold calling and telemarketing?
Telemarketing is one of those words that has a very bad connotation, and many people have come to equate cold calling as being the same thing. What is the difference between cold calling and telemarketing, if there is one? How can us sales people keep cold calling from getting the same reputation?

Interesting one. Perhaps the controversial answer is to stop doing it? I have a long career in sales, marketing and consultancy behind me and guess what, I don't cold call. Ever. And I won't take cold sales calls either. Wow...super controversial! So, how do I buy stuff? Well, as COO of WeCanDo.BIZ, I eat my own dog-food as it were. This is not, by the way an advertisement. I simply post anything I need as a Biz Need and I let the market come to me. Based on the fact that I have published a need...and as we all know, no need, no lead. Simple.
If I want to sell something, I also use our tools because we have some great ways of going out to the world and finding people who are asking for what we sell. And it works. I do not believe in making selling hard so there is no way I am going to waste time sitting on the end of a phone reading a script.
