What do you consider to be the basics of supply chain management?
I work for a supply chain management company and my friend asked me what the basics of supply chain management are and I don't think I did a good job of explaining it. What do you think are the basics of supply chain management? How would you describe it to someone who doesn't know anything about supply chain management?

The question posted is more relevant to all who are new to the world of Supply Chain or rather to the people who now started realizing that there is some back operation which actually takes place when customer buy items from Retail Shops.....
So I would say that Supply Chain Management is typically the cycle of "Customer to Customer".
Means the need is obviously starts from Customer and then the need to be fulfilled to the Customers.....
But when we say it is Customer to Customer and fulfilling the need there is lot of inter connectivity happens in all areas that exists in today's world i.e. connection to Marketing, to finance to Customer to Relationship manager etc etc etc...
But keep it simple; the Supply Chain is
Supplier--Manufacturing--Warehouse--Retail Shops--Customer
Take example of Chocloates where in the Supplier(Nestle) sends it to Warehouse(Wallmart Warehouse) and then from Warehouse to Stores and then Customer buy from stores.....
