What do you know about Elavon Merchant Services?
I’m looking for a merchant services provider in the US, and Elavon is a company that has been mentioned to me on a couple of different occasions. What do you know about them? Are they reputable? Cost effective?

I can't comment on Elavon...I work in Merchant processing and there are a lot of things to watch out for! Beware of hidden fees! If you want to ask any questions, no obligation, I'd be happy to answer/consult.

Elavon absolutely SUCKS! I would not recommend this pathetic company to anyone. They "forget" to tell you all the negative things while you are signing up with them and then you find them on your own. For instance, their credit card machines do not print receipts...you have to run credit cards online and ask every customer for his or her address...you then have to print a receipt on a standard 8 1/2 X 11' sheet of paper. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. If you are already a customer of this company, do yourself a favor and pay the cancellation fee to be done with them. They are your typical salespeople who are your "best friend" until the contract is signed. Stay away from this group of Community College dropouts!!!
Elavon is one of the approximately 40 Processors who can deal directly with "Interchange" (Visa and Mastercard). They are a competitor of mine, so perhaps I can't be completely objective.
I know them to be a reliable, well-established reasonably competitive company. If you deal directly with them instead of through a separate sales organization that uses Elavon as a processor, you will probably be able to save a little bit of cost in that you are skipping one level of sales commission.
No matter what company you deal with, it is in your best interest to always insist on a rate guarantee. Many credit card processors are notorious for insidiously raising rates - and even imposing fees that don't actually exist.
I suggest you also get a contract that is "cost-plus" rather than "tiered". This will be more transparent, and help to prevent the inadvertent moving of some credit card transactions from one less-expensive tier into a more-expensive one.
Elovan stole our money from our account and for 6 mo. we have been working countless hours over the phone to get them return our $450 ,but every time they say they are working on it they do nothing
they basically stole our money
everyone should file a complaint with Costco for promoting such a fraudulent company to their customers
Costco is just as responsible for this as Elevon
Elevon sucks big time so is Costco
never sign in contract with this company. they take out money fraudulently and never care about even after complaints repeatedly. do not ever get stuck with contract.
Never sign in contract with this company. They take out money fraudulently and never care about even after complaints repeatedly. You get stuck with contract and helpless.
They are fraudulently charging us every month for American express and some thing called assoc comp. even after we sent repeated requests to cancel by fax. American express says they do not have our account. Even terminal does not accept the card. Another thing this company is big rip off with hidden charges. With two years agonizing experience with this company, I advice ...please do not take any services from this company. In fact we stopped accepting credit cards because of this company fraudulent charges. We just wait for the contract to expire by paying monthly charges.
Elavon is the worst processor you can have, not only keep delaying cancellation, also holding your money and empty your bank account even your record is clean. Search "complaint Elavon" in yahoo or google or Businessweek, you can see more horrible stories.
I'm looking for a better company. Although to be "better" than Elavon is not that hard. I seriously do not recommend Elavon. Bad services, high fees and slow notices (or no notices at all until they can charge you about being late).
