I believe there are a couple of key trends in the near term; green supply chain initiatives and supply chain visibility. These trends also support and extend each other too. The supply chain visibility brings many things to the table to improve the operation and the flow of goods 'from the manufacturer's floor to the customers' door'. The visibility will also positively impact green supply chain initiatives. Very soon the green initiatives will also bring dramatic ROI from both a cost and a customer perspective of the enterprise.
I think the future will see the integration of environmental cost in the supply chain.
This will show in product design and in supply chains. More regional production for regional or local markets.
