What is an easy payroll software for small business?
I just started my own business and am looking for an easy payroll software to handle basic needs like direct deposits and tax filings. I only have 2 employees, myself and one other, and my budget is very limited. Would Quickbooks Online Payroll be a good solution? What about Zpay?

If all three employees are located in the same state, then Quickbooks Online Payroll should work. If they are not located in the same state, you will want to be sure that you work with your tax accountant to make sure that any city/local/ or state tax rates/changes are updated.
As a small business owner I feel you must first look at time management. Performing in house payroll is a non added value to you and your companies’ growth. Yes, QuickBooks can run a payroll, but do you understand all the Employers responsibilities that go into a payroll, payroll taxes, quarterly returns, year end returns and filing requirements? Outsourcing your payroll and payroll taxes will be a cost savings for you and it will allow you to focus on the growth of your business.

Summer brings up a good point - are all three of you in the same state? Some other questions to ask: How much of the work do you want done (think tax filings) vs. do you want to do? How often do you pay your employees, and do you want to download and pay for software upgrades when tax tables change? There are more considerations than these, but they should help you when talking to payroll companies.

I don't understand why small businesses don't just contact their banks for automated payroll solutions, in the UK we used the software provided by our bank - the Royal Bank of Scotland - for this. It's cheap and effective and comes with decent support too.
Do you really want to do payroll yourself? Many payroll/HR companies will produce payroll for a cost comparable to Quickbooks and give you HR support in the bargain. Save time. Get extra support.
