I understand that ERP II was dubbed as the next generation of ERP, but what exactly does that mean?

From an ERP provider perspective, ERP II is explained as the further advancement into other areas of a company. In the manufacturing sector there was first MRP, then MRP II and these focused primarily on manufacturing and material planning. Then ERP came about to go into scheduling, purchasing, inventory control, etc... ERP II is the expansion of all of those lower levels to include more detailed accounting and optional features (i.e. Quality, warehouse management) that are required to run your entire business. Others may have a different opinion.
