What is the estimated cost of a marketing automation solution?

What should I expect to pay for a marketing automation solution? Does the price depend upon what features and applications I want? Or are they pretty standard?

Well, if you take a look at the well known solution (Marketo, Eloqua, LoopFuse), you will see the price are a close match.

$1000-$4000 per month depending on your needs.

I did not search for cheaper solutions yet. It might worth it to look with some independent specialists like http://www.demandgen.com/ (I never used them, and I'm not linked in anyways to them).

I plan on using them when ready to start using marketing automation.

Most of the marketing automation vendors offer similarly priced solutions. One clips features based on price and another is seat-based, but by and large they're all priced based on the number of records in your database. What you need to allocate budget for is not functionality but services. Attrition for MA is about 40%, and companies/marketers are failing because they underestimate what it takes to be successful (and most vendors aren't forthcoming about the challenges). Thus, I'd strongly advise anyone building a MA budget to double it, so they can get assistance getting the program off the ground.
