To what extent should I rely on social recruiting?
How much importance should I place on social recruiting vs. traditional resumes/CVs? How reliable is someone's social media presence as an indicator of their quality as an employee?

I've found nearly all of my best hires through LinkedIn. It gives me the advantage of reviewing profiles and connections. It's a great resource for finding talent, receiving introductions to talent, and doing reference checks.
I'd only require other social media presence if I'm hiring a marketer. In this event, I'll look to see if they're speaking out in areas of influence, and I'll evaluate their effectiveness in this area.
However, I might make a negative decision on hiring if I see a person's social presence as potentially detrimental to our company's reputation. All those 20-somethings out there who live their lives so publicly should pay close attention to this.
Social Media can only gives an over view about someone's professional life. It can helps you in making a good recruitment decision but relying totally on social recruitment is not a good option at all. Although in today's world social media has became an increasingly important part of our lives but tools of traditional hiring and assessment like background screening, employment verification etc. are also very important, as you can not trust the authenticity of the information provided by a person on social media.

I think relying solely on social recruiting can be misleading many times, resulting in a waste of time.
