What fun handouts do you pass out at tradeshows?

None, or maybe a simple business card with a url to access copies of the handouts we use to bring to the shows. Its not so much a cost statement as a waste statement. We found people rarely bring much home with them. Luggage space is always in short supply.

Most handouts end up in the hotel trash. If we are speaking at the trade show we might have a handout for the presentation attendees but that is even rare. We like to encourage people at the show to visit a vanity url where they can download or read the materials and request updates. We offer people the opportunity to register for a related webinar when they visit the download site by registering just with their email address. From there - we work to earn a relationship.

I agree with John to some degree. If you do not give out something that is different and original, don't give out anything at all. How many cheap pens and sticky notes can one collect?

However, we did something at a local SHRM Conference in July. We had something called a "Human Resources Professional's Survival Kit" with a number of little boxes filled with little boxes with stickers on them.

One had a note saying, "Too many demands giving you headaches? Take this and call McKenzieHR in the morning." inside the box was a couple of aspirin packets.

Another had the note, "Government agencies driving you to drink? This may help for a little while, then call McKenzieHR." Inside was a little bottle of liquor.

I had a number of other things like tums, a whining towel and band aids..

The participants were lining up in our booth to get one. It worked well and we had great feedback from so many people I did not know before. The challenge now is keeping in touch with all of them. It is nice to go into people's offices and see the survival kit on their shelves.

Trade shows are usually held in cities that may be unfamiliar to many of the exhibitors.

Why not hand out a personal recommendation map of local restaurants, bars, etc, for those unfamiliar with the area? If you provide quality reviews, they will hold on to your material and appreciate the help.
