What is a good resource for free small business help?

Are there any government or non-profit organizations that I can go to for advice for my small business. Particularly, I am looking for help on changing my company structure from a sole proprietorship to either a partnership, LLC or corporation. I am taking on a few partners that bring in valuable non cash assets (certifications), but we don’t want to spend a lot of money on setting up this new structure.

If you want a free consultation, I would contact someone at your local SCORE.org chapter. They are a group of retired business men and women that provide free advice and have locations in most U.S. cities.

I don't however, know of a way to set up a business structure for free. There are websites such as www.legalzoom.com that can take you through the process online and at a pretty fair price. I personally, set up my business (an S-Corp) through a local lawyer my accountant referred. He ended up being the same price www.legalzoom.com was going to charge. I asked many people for advice in which structure to choose online and in networking, but I felt like talking with a lawyer really helped crystallize the right choice.

Good luck and I hope that helps your process!
