What is an example of a financial services company using social media?

Note: Not named American Express

With the rules etc, are there any examples of financial institutions leveraging social media and how?

There's a common strategy among the financial firms that are starting to realize value in social media: they're moving beyond social in the corporate marketing department and engaging at the individual level. Financial professionals make hay through networking and building deep relationships, and social technologies empower that. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and Wedbush Securities are a couple examples of firms with near-term plans to enable ALL their professionals on key social networks, but there are dozens of brokerages, asset managers, and insurance firms with similar active initiatives.

Funny, Drew, I replied without having realized you were *with* SocialWare. I should've known you guys could represent yourselves without my intervention ;) Seriously though, you guys are doing great stuff, best of luck to you.

Craig,

It's a very interesting question ... and, more broadly, the question about social media practices in regulated industries is a compelling one. I'd suggest you check out SocialWare (http://www.socialware.com/) for stories/examples. I am sure they have case studies. They are a social media platform for financial services/regulated industries. Highly relevant to your question. No disclosure required: I have no relationship with the company. Just think they have a very interesting niche that relates directly to your question.

Best of luck,
Joe
