I'll give a somewhat round about answer to that - IT's role within ERP should be to play a leadership role in supporting the end users. For instance disaster recovery - accounting data is updated daily, and backups should be created daily and stored off site. Proper procedures should be in place for setting up an offsite backup, and for testing the recovery quarterly to ensure that the backup plan will work in case of data loss. However, most ERP users have very little if any experience with this sort of involved data back. IT can and should play an active role in making sure that back-up plans are in place, and work.
