What is the difference between content marketing and inbound marketing?
You might think i am posting this to start discussion but I feel like the terms are being used interchangeably.

Content is mandatory for inbound marketing. To drive inbound demand you need to develop great content and share it in as many places your buyers are, so they can find you easily (thus come to you).
Content marketing is a layer up. It can be used to drive inbound marketing efforts, but also to drive demand, nurture not ready leads into sales ready leads, and enable sales to close more deals.
Inbound marketing is leveraging social media, SEO, blogging, link building, and online influencers to create an organic "inbound" demand for your product/service.
Content marketing, and the content marketing strategy needs to address inbound objectives, as well as support buyers and sales throughout the entire buying process.
Hi Craig...I think this might help.

Joe, I liked your answer then and I like it again. I think the only thing that I would add is that a content strategy doesn't have to be only "inbound", and that point confuses people at times.
Having great content that people find and come to you is the ideal. But you can also push content or invitations to come to content out to a list of nurture prospects - it is still content marketing, but some argue that it is no longer inbound because you had to reach out to get a reaction.
Now I think this is all semantics - they ultimately come to for content - but the language is confusing at times for small businesses that don't practice this on a regular basis.
Hi Dan...I believe you are right. A content marketing strategy contains both internal content needs as well as inbound/outbound messaging, which is why I've always preferred content marketing over the term inbound marketing.
Overall, the right message and the right time to the right audience on a consistent basis to maintain or change a behavior.
Thanks!
