What is workplace bullying?
I feel that most adults want to handle 'bullying' on their own, and won't bring it to the attention of management. What are some signs of workplace bullying? How do you handle it?

Dear Liz;
I just designed and delivered a workshop on this subject to 50 employees. Summarized workplace bullying is: Behaviors with cryptic intent to overtly or covertly harm a colleague, in violation of workplace and/or sociality's norm for mutual respect.
Signs include increased absenteeism, loss of productivity, turnover, increase in health insurance claims, and increase in legal actions. These are of course escalated signs of existing problems.
Solutions are complex and include bringing in a consultant like myself to determine how severe the issues are and developing an appropriate strategy. The solution can be as simple ad delivering a workshop or as complex as coaching affected employees and termination of certain staff members.
