I read through the book pretty quickly and while I wouldn't consider myself a novice, I marked quite a few pages to refer back to. Ann and C.C. provide a clear roadmap to not only decide what types of content you should produce to meet your goals (lead gen, thought leadership, nuturing, etc), but a clear understanding of the commitment required to put your plan into action. Examples and chcklists also support the framework in the book. Overall great reference material and very relevant to today's focus of marketing; producing quality content that supports your brand, your messaging and your audience. Highly recommend it to any marketer, starting out or already deep in.
I read Content Rules and reviewed it on the Eloqua blog (http://blog.eloqua.com/eloqua-review-content-rules/) I think it is an important book. Here's why: Content marketing is one of the hottest categories in the trade. Yet there is very little unbiased information about it. By definition, most of the companies that are writing about content marketing have an agenda. (I should know: I run content marketing and I too fall into this trap. There's ink on my hands.) Ann and CC have no agenda. Give great advice, sell lots of books. State the obvious, sell none. This book is the secular Bible of content marketing, and I truly believe that it can make a material difference in the career of anyone who reads it -- and applies the lessons to their businesses.
Incidentally, we threw a party for Ann & CC. Here's a video from it -- a bunch of top marketers talking about themes from the book. http://blog.eloqua.com/video-last-night-content-ruled/

I purchased the book a few weeks ago and could not put it down. Content rules was filled with actionable items that kept me awake trying to decide how I could implement this strategy in my business, immediately.
Ann and C.C. provide a guide that will benefit almost every business out there. I strongly recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book after attending a webinar. I wasn't sure if I needed another book to add to my reading list but after getting through the first chapter, I couldn't stop reading it. So many books talk about theory and high level content for marketers but this book got in the trenches with practical steps anyone can start with. I recommend this book to anyone focused on building a high value marketing campaign around content generation.
5 Reasons why you should read this book:
1. It's one of the best selling marketing books on Amazon, with stellar reviews
2. It covers the basics, but goes deeper giving the reader a large amount of content in one book
3. It will serve as a reference guide- I've gone back to my copy at least 10 times
4. Just reading the summaries doesn't give you enough details- every page of this book has good content, so you'll never get to the meat of it via a quick synopsis
5. The authors are super duper smart- and passed on the good stuff and then went beyond their own knowledge and interviewed dozens to create the most complete book on the topic.
I guess you can say I liked the book ;-)
