What is your take-away from RSA Conference?
The largest IT security conference just ended in San Francisco. For any Focus Experts that attended what are some of the key points you picked up on that could enlighten the Focus community?
I saw an uptick in the idea of whitelisting as a means of end point protection.
Also, "beaconing detection" to discover already compromised computers is very hot.
Authentication, always a busy space at RSA, is getting traction with simpler end-user solutions.

The gov sent some big guns, perhaps we will see some real progress on a public and private cooperative which can only help to make sure all those new federal dollars going towards security are going to be spent more wisely. I think the criticisms in the latest CSIS report served to nudge cyber security back up the priority ladder in the White House. Take away - attention level is there, now we need national leadership to step up and make things happen. Can the gov/industry collaboration show as much initiative and innovation as the bad guys are mustering? It will take more than rhetoric and legislation to get the job done.
Well, I am still "absorbing and processing" what I saw at RSA. Some early sings:
- just as Richard, I saw more auth and more whitelisting
- cloudwise, I expected it to be truly in every booth, like an oppressive evil presence :-) Fortunately, it was not that bad
- noticed - to some surprise - more Asian companies presenting, compared to prev years. Not sure what that means
- a lot of loser vendors had big booths - last spurt of activity before they die? :-)
- it looks like virtualization + clod + mobile will be the "big 3" to drive security conversation for at least a few years
