What kind of email marketing campaign software should I be looking for?
I run my own bakery and am looking for an affordable, yet professional email marketing software to help grow my business. What type of campaign software should I be looking for? I would need email templates and would probably be sending out around 500-1000 emails per month.

I think you will need to look for two things: appearance and analytics. You will need to use email newsletter software that will produce attractive newsletters that display your logo and marketing images properly and which don't look "homemade". You will also need analytics that keep track of your subscribers, tells you who opened the message and who followed links from within your newsletter back to your website.
Our organization has used Industry Mailout successfully for quite a few years with the same membership size that you mention.
You might also want to make a test run on another newsletter to find out if it will be effective, such as Daily Candy. Have you considered using Twitter, like Kogi Barbecue or Threadless use Twitter?
That's a good question, some of the software apps are considered as spam sender and if its sent through them then your email is likely to be in recipients junk box. So try some php mailers instead desktop mailers. if its a small list you have within 500 subscribers then try mailchimp. if you have huge list then an outdoor vendor selection is good choice.

There are several advantages in using a hosted service like CM or MailChimp (others are ConstantContact and iContact, but I find them too busy/hard to setup)
