Obviously the main problem is the expense of power consumption. Much of that power consumption is turned into heat, which requires more power for cooling. It can be a viscious cycle.

Depending on the business location, excess power consumption can cause other limitations within a company site. Most commercial leases include limitations on how much power and condensed water a tenant can consume. If the data center requires an unusually high amount of power and hence cooling, this requirement limits what is available for the remainder of the space.

Power consumption will also drive the amount of support equipment needed for the data center, namely UPS and Air Conditioners. This takes valuable space away from that which can be used for other purposes.
