What should you consider when choosing a server virtualization software vendor?
I'm working on a white paper for my company detailing how businesses should go about choosing vendors for virtualization projects. What factors should one consider when choosing a virtualization software vendor? Does the financial health of the provider matter? What trends do you consider? What integration capabilities are necessary? Any thoughts are welcomed.

there's a lot to consider :) What should be the purpose, scale, os choice, open source commercial solutions? I'm working over 4 years with Parallels Server virtualization and Xen in large scale, I would say most common solutions are:
- container based virtualiziation Virtuozzo / OpenVirtuozzo, KVM
- baremetal - VMWare, Virtuozzo (Parallels) Baremetal
- Xen
All of them have their advantages and disadvantages. I would prefer Xen, it seems it will become availabe in mainstream kernel soon (again), till yet it's not as hard to provide such system, I read a lot about it's difficulty of setting it up .. It's free, IMHO it has the best performance (at least compared to solutions based on one shared kernel - Virtuozzo's). You may run 2 different types of virtualization using Xen - a) paravirtualization b) full virtualization using hardware virtualization support. Xen's hypervisor is a nice one :)
