The majority of PM skills still form the foundation, but your communication skills really need to step up. Ineffective emails and poor reports can waste days in back and forth responses/questions because of the time zone differences. Strong communication to cast the vision and set expectations are crucial in a global team.
Also, you have to have more cultural sensitivity. Not just on how you are interacting with your teams, but how the team is interacting as well. Getting ahead of inadvertent 'insults' can help maintain a positive team atmosphere.
