Concise and to the point. If I need further information, I will call or research via website.
Here is my list:
- Don't speak down to me
- Don't invent new terms
- Avoid jargon
- Don't claim "compliance" to unsanctioned or de facto standards
- Describe the business-value in non-technical terms
- Describe your differentiators with defensible data
- Speak with FACTS, FACTS, FACTS
I agree with both Dennis and Steven. I am not impressed with made-up terms, overwhelming superlatives, and unproven claims. One of the major issues I have with technology marketers is what exactly does it do and why I should be interested. Explain it correctly and clearly without being dismissive. I also do not want to have to dig or "contact you" for pricing. A clear "price point" can help me determine if I have any interest in researching your products or services further. Diagrams and pictorial representations are also good as is an FAQ.
