Great question!
I was 25 and started my first "venture" selling myself as a Fitness Instructor / Aerobics Instructor back in Sydney Australia. It was my first reall foray into understanding the ins and outs of supporting myself as a "business", expenses/overheads involved, time management, marketing, brand visibility, competition and core market focus.
I did it successfully for 4 years and have to admit I had a lot of fun doing it and made more income than my actual "real" job with the Air Force!
I was about 11 or 12 when my sister and 2 brothers and I opened a lemonade and snow cone stand in the front yard. Ran it for about 3 weekends. We were on a small street (Warlock) perpendicular to a well traveled one. I remember we paid a couple of other kids in the neighborhood with a free one to hold up signs - one per kid - Get Your Snowcones Here - so as people drove towards our corner they had plenty of notification to turn in and enjoy. This would have been the early 1960's. We made a profit but not much. Learned a lesson about pricing!
