Apple's 1984. Iconic and brilliant at visually delivering the message.
There are so many to consider, but I think the ORIGINAL Super Bowl commercial gets the credit as the "best." Not only did it revolutionize the consumer electronics / computer world(s), but it created the "Super Bowl" commercial as we know it today.

Last year we conducted an empirical study of the social footprint of in game Super Bowl ads. In all we ran the study for 90 days (advertiser announcements in December, throughout playoffs, and then the month after), analyzed some 40 brands, and bench marked them against one another by creating an index we call the Social Engagement Index (SEI).
Overall, the Google "Search" story came out on top. Somewhat understandable when one of the biggest brands in the world that has sworn off mass media decides to make their first paid television appearance. Another interesting finding we had, however, had another brand - Motorola coming up first in the post game period. Looking at the rate of decay is always an important consideration for any advertising buy and Motorola, while still trailing Google overall, performed very well in the longtail.

Has to be 1984 Apple hammer thrower. Frogs and lizards are cute, and there have been attempts to top it, but so far no one has done so. The ad has already outlived the Mac, and will probably out live Apple.
