What's the best data source (e.g. Jigsaw, OneSource) for European contact lists?

I'm familiar with most of the US data companies - Jigsaw, OneSource, IProfile, etc. - but most have poor or no European coverage. What's the best source if I'm looking for VP-level contacts (by job function) at European companies, specifically in financial services? (Note: the client is looking to build a database, not simply rent a list.)

Hi Howard:

You are correct, unfortunately there are not a lot of good options. Very strict privacy laws in most EU countries (Germany is amongst the strictest in the world) make it tough. We have relatively good coverage, but we always recommend that our customers budget a bit extra for EU data to leave room for "just in time" phone validation, as auto-matching to the various business directories we have access to can be a bit dicey quality-wise. Hence, we favor having our research centers call to validate the contacts that we are provisioning to make sure they are high quality before delivering to our customers.

Hi Howard,
There are a few companies based in Europe that provide specific lists. What data attributes are you looking at because Cody is right about the strict privacy laws. If your client is planning an email campaign, you will need to get the opt in permission. I have not come across a portal type of solution that you can sign up and download contact lists. One of the approaches you can consider is getting a custom list built to your specifications.
If that is something of interest to you, we at Sales Inside Inc offer these services. We have our own offshore research & call center. We conduct role based and title based contact discoveries. All contacts are phone verified for relevance and accuracy.

Hi Howard,

Unfortunately, there aren't many ready made data providers for EU that you can trust for the list quality. We (http://www.readycontacts.com) build a number of lists for customers for EU and ME but it is exclusively based on tele research as it yields the highest quality though its slower and more expensive. This does give you a database you can own (rather than rent) and it pays off in the long run so there ROI is good.

Hope this helps.

Best,
Vaibhav

Hi Howard,

I would caution strongly about buying data in the EU, particularly in Germany which has the strictest privacy laws. If you email the names (even by creating unique and personal one to one email - which is then technically not spam) you run the risk of being on the wrong side of their privacy and email laws.

I agree with Vaibhav that a custom built (bespoke to use the proper British term) list is the best option. With this, I would further caution that you should not just rely on online research to build your list, but rather do a full tele-marketing and email campaign to double opt-in the contacts. We did a similar project recently for a well known security software company to help them build their list in Germany. We phoned into the desired demographic/firmagraphic, got phone based permission to send them an email, sent them an email to confirm their agreement and then added those who double opted in to the final list. We used a proprietary method to do this, were able to provide all digital proof of double opt in to the client (should anyone question the validity of the list in the future) and obviously accomplished this with a German speaking rep and confirm emails in German.
