What's the best time to post to social networks?

I just saw some research that suggests off-peak times, such as the weekends, may be the best times to tweet, blog, e-mail and post to Facebook and other social networks. There is less clutter, so your messages are more likely to be seen and read. What are your thoughts?

The best time is when your intended audience is available and attentive.

It also helps if you are coherent at those times. :)

While timing has its place, I'd argue, based on seeing the differences in response rates to different types of posts by different people (in my networks and others), that the content is the main thing. If the content is not appealing to the recipients, then no amount of timing will overcome that. If the content resonates, then timing is a minor issue, as people seem to be willing to consume and respond to social media from every possible device at every possible moment.

The best time, is when you have the right content. :)

I just found some really interesting data from Dan Zarella here's the infographic http://danzarrella.com/infographic-how-to-use-contra-competitive-timing-for-m...

Facebook = Highest Article Shares on Saturday
Email CTR = Sunday and Saturday
ReTweets = Friday
Comments per Post = Saturday, then Sunday

Essentially, as communication channels get more and more crowded, people are finding reaching out at "quiet" times drives better engagement.

Here's a related link to a fun quiz & blog post which discusses which social site to post what content to -- http://blog.snapapp.com/best-practices-for-posting-across-social-networks#mor...

Andrew's answer is spot on "when you have the right content" - timing is meaningful but there's no 'one size fits all' answer. What's most important is to look at your history given your audience/followers and see when people have reacted in the past. I use Bit.ly to look at historic data on clickthroughs, Crowdbooster also sometimes - there are many other tools and systems that do this, and lots of them are free. Awe.sm (bit.ly competitor) is very nice although it is NOT free.

I'd add that it's also important to 'space out' your postings - products like HootSuite, Buffer & Pluggio can help you more evenly distribute your posts which helps with responsiveness as well.

There was an interresting post on SocialMediaToday: "What Time Should I Post This?"
You can find it at http://socialmediatoday.com/stephanie-parker/335306/what-time-should-i-post
But this study consdiders that you should post on socmed at peaks, considering that lot of people are connected (that is true).
The good stat would be when the "readers" are reading, that is not known (or hidden) in most of the stats I read.

But Andrew is right : the best time is "when you have something interresting to say" ... I would just add : except if it is in the middle of the night for your followers.
As Chris said, use a tools for delayed post (I personnaly uses HootSuite).

So like always, you better known your target, the individual you want to reach and have something for them.

In my opinion, the best time to post is the evening, bec most people return from their jobs and want to relax, by talking with others in a social network. And i think, the most important thing to read more a post, people, is that the person who do the question, has attractrive thoughts or mind to challenge the interest of other to take a look for that this person ask ??

I would say best time is when you can reach out to the maximum audience. So yes it should be the time when most people are connected. If you have something appealing, it will get attraction. If not, it will be lost in the clutter and so should it be.

I would recommend using Crowdbooster (http://www.crowdbooster.com) and http://su.pr — both of which will recommend what times you should be sending out your tweets based on the data and number of clicks the sites collect when analyzing your Twitter accounts.

I would recommend using the Engage121 application with the SocialFlow integration. SocialFlow's primary purpose is to help determine the optimal timing for posts. http://www.engage121.com Hope that helps!
