What's the best way to follow up with a networking contact?

Say you've just met someone at a tradeshow that would be a great networking contact for you. What's the best way to follow up with this person after the initial introduction?

Take your time and dont follow-up immediately!
How many times have you been to a trade show and then received hundreds of emails and voicemails filling your inbox? Give your target contact some time to get back to work and "settle down" before getting in touch.

I would strongly recommend a phone call as the first contact after a trade-show. Emails tend to be read very quickly and then forgotten/deleted. Wait at least 2-4 days and then pick up the phone and make that call.

Be jovial in reminding your contact how & where you met and then be straight to the point, honesty pays off when "hunting" for a good networking contact. Importantly, also think about what you can offer your target contact. Networking more and more is about "win-win" collaborations.

Cheers, Val.

An email to say thanks for taking the time to chat etc. May need to explain who you are and where you met them. Tell them that you would like to follow up again to discuss or tell them you'd like to hear more about ... give them your details again.
