What's the best way to introduce the concept of using a single source for building maintenance in a industry that usually uses 3-4 different companies?

It's pretty straightforward. If management can't deal with this one, how might they handle something complex and strategic?

At core, this is a commoditized non-strategic service. The cost ought to be optimized with one supplier doing it all, and quality would be expected to be consistent. A no-brainer. There's little, if anything to be gained by pitting one supplier against others, with each getting some share of the business. There's a lot to be gained by the winning bid getting all the business.

Thanks Art. Yes, it seems to be a no-brainer... and we thought the industry would be responsive to a single source for all their building maintenance needs, but the success has been marginal with larger (100k sq. ft.& up) accounts. Therefore, I was looking for suggestions on specific marketing stratagies and how social media can play a role in educating the industry.

Walter: Tough sell if you are dealing with mid-20th century purchasing troglodytes. They tend to be slow, if at all, learners, whose usual response is to turn the crank even tighter under stress. Maybe stern words forma 21st-century practitioner could help (a self-serving thought, I confess). Or a case example from a respected company. I'm not sure that social media approaches would resonate with folks who don't get the difference between strategic and tactical sourcing and procurement. I can only begin to speculate about how messy supplier relationships get with uninformed, unaware, and unprepared procurement organizations. That is, if they don't know how to handle something as simple as maintenance, how much opportunity are they squandering on the mission-critical parts, products, materials, and services?
