What's preventing all of the major airlines from offering in flight wireless internet access?

Delta now offers wireless on most of its major routes. Why don't the other major airlines do this?

Hi Scott- it's cost of installation and maintenance (upkeep), as well as that the customers are not embracing it (too expensive for most customers who are not having it purchased by their company, according to the studies) in numbers enough to deliver the ROI and ancillary revenues expected from its inception. (Personally, I love it and am very frustrated when I travel on an airline that doesn't offer it!) Lufthansa is just now offering it (again) on their international flights, but it's mainly only found on the North American carriers at this time (for the US road warrior types). But to sum up- the ROI and revenues aren't justifying the cost.

Great answer. Too bad - it's such a game changer for the inflight experience of a business traveller.
