What's the price range for business telephone systems?

I have a small business with about 25 employees. I need a phone system. How much should I expect to pay?

A simple basic system can get for as low as 5k and could run as high 100k depending on

1. Features you are looking( basic and advance)
2. Capacity and Scalability.
4. upgrading, maintainence and support - lot of vendors get their money here.

I hope this helps.

My rule of thumb is $700 (us) per telephone for equipment, installation, and configuration. So for your 25 users, the cost should be in the area of $17500(us). This is just a rule of thumb, a very basic system would be less, a more feature rich system would be more but I find this a quick simple way to get a general idea of how much a system would cost.

For a decent quality IP phone system, I'm partial to the Mitel 3300 myself, you should expect to spend between $400 and $600 per handset. Any less than that and you won't be getting all the capabilities inherent in IP. Any more than that and you'll be wasting your money.

Bill,
Wanted to chime in and give you a little more information as I see the trend is to post pricing right here in the forum.

We have built a cloud based PBX environment that gives you the complete functionality of a fully featured PBX without the up-front investment. Call recording, sales queue's, time based auto-attendants and voicemail/fax to email are just a few of the features we offer, which are never nickled and dimed. With Northwest Vox, it's all inclusive.

We understand that in this economy cash flow is king. Our pricing model accommodates this. Each phone line on our system is $49.99/mo and includes a fully featured extension and Polycom Soundpoint Series phone. Additional Extensions are $14.99 and also include the same Polycom phones.
So if you had a need to have 8 simultaneous calls on the system at any given time, an additional 17 extensions and a physical fax line (at $9.99), it would be $654.75/mo (plus taxes depending on your location). We also cover all the installation costs, and don't worry - you can keep your phone numbers.

No hardware to purchase, no installers to pay, you can start to realize the ROI the first month. Expert 24/7 customer support.

I would love the opportunity to prepare a more formal bid and discuss this with you further.

-Thanks,
Casey Strom

Your answer will surely cover a wide range based on the features you need.
o Do you need voice mail
o Will the voice mail support unified messaging
o Will you need direct dial to the desk top
o Do you have remote users
o Is you facility cabled properly
o Will you use Voip – should you?
o Which manufacture will you use?
o Will you consider new or refurbished?

My experience would say you would see an installed system for 25 users range from $250.00 per user installed to $500.00+

A Cisco telephone can run you more than $250.00 each before you purchase the system, POE switches, and labor….

Some of the questions you need to ask are:
- how many phone lines do you need for your employees
- Is your company growing (you don't want to buy a system to that won't grow with you)
- Unified messaging is a must have, if not today, it will be tomorrow (integration of voice and email, usually Outlook)
- do you have people working from home, how do they use the office phone system, is this something that you might need in the future
- how easy is the system to use - for administrators and for end users (you want a system that can be managed internally and is easy for employees to use the tools they need

I recommend you look at a ShoreTel system for long term growth

Our model is different, because we bundle the hardware and service into one. So you can expect to pay a close amount for the service as standard IP service, but we include Polycom Soundpoint IP phones with the installation.

When we do competitive bids, we generally see the unit cost per handset on those devices to be $300-400/ea when you factor the cost of the entire system.

I sell VOIP phone system perfect for this office. 25 user setup with a dedicated server, Local installation and 25 business grade phones for about $261 per person. Unlimited calling in the US VOIP lines for only $250 a month. All the main features of a high end PBX for a fraction of the cost.

Phones use your existing network connections and the computers plug right into the phone.

Polycom/Cisco phones add about $100+ per phone depending on the features you need.

All of the systems we sell would run around $250 per user. Make sure to look at the cost of ownership however, and not just the initial cost. How long is the warranty, and what will it cost to extend it? Will you have to pay for ongoing support? Will you require a site visit from a vendor any time you want to change or add to the system? These things can add up, and really make a difference in the total cost.

You can find hosted options that are less than what has been mentioned in this thread.

Some providers like OnSIP (http://www.onsip.com) have a pay as you go pricing plan. So if you have a lot of employees who don't make a lot of outbound calls or take a lot of inbound calls, then they essentially have a free line. (On network calls are free since they're using SIP standards)

If I remember correctly, I believe they start off at 40 $ a month for the phone system and you can add as many users/extensions as you want.

When you are buying a new telephone system for your business, you shouldn’t buy purely on price; more reliable and expandable systems tend to cost more per user up front, but the saving you will see in the long run make it worthwhile.

Key systems and hybrids can range from $350 to $1000 per user, depending on the features you select. For larger PBX systems, prices start at around $800 per user, but usually wind up more in the $1000 per user range.

KSU-less systems generally cost between $130 and $225 per office telephone. While the savings may seem attractive, keep in mind that this is really only an option for offices of 10 or fewer people.
