The relationship is strong and necessary.
I would say; "Ask youself this; How can you say what level of quality you are providing without the processes and documentation defined by ITIL?" These standardized processes and documentation provide for measuring and reporting. Only these last two items can allow a good determination of the quality of service you are providing.
Use the reports to improve and show off the quality of your "product".
