Passion, drive and the internal talents you can not train. Self assurance, responsibility, discipline and strategic thinking in order to solve customer problems.

I absolutely agree with Lori. Experience, in fact, can be a false indicator--it can be terribly bad experience, Think for a moment--when we talk to people about their experience we really delve into it, making sure the experience is relevant to what we are looking for. Too often we find it isn't.

Experience can be built--it' impossible to build passion, drive, or the other characteristics Lori talks about (though you can coach those).

Are you considering a candidate that has one or the other, but not both? Or, do you want to know, in general, which of the two attributes is the more valuable?

It's sometimes confusing to me why questions are framed as either-or. Sort of like asking "which is more important when you buy a suit--good fit, or good fabric? Well, both are important, and some other things as well. Even if there were consensus on the answer, would you have a full picture of what matters? No.

As Dave pointed out, these attributes are two-edged swords. Experience is beneficial, until it leads to myopia and malaise. Hunger is useful for motivation, until that turns into aggression (yes, it happens), which turns everyone off, including customers.
