When should a successful venture funded startup opt out of more venture funding?

A venture should only seek and accept funding when there is very clear reason for the money that is thoroughly planned out and the planned expenses will drastically increase revenues and profitability to the business. Venture capital is possibly the most expensive money you can get.

I once had an old VC tell me that VC's are just legal loan sharks. They give you a lot of money when your desperate on just faith and expect huge returns on their money. Unless there is a good reason for the money you should opt out of more venture funding.
