Where can I learn SEO fundamentals?
I recently created a website, and want to learn some SEO fundamentals to help increase our visibility. Where can I learn some SEO fundamentals? What sites do you recommend using as resources? Lastly, is it worth it to pay someone to do SEO work for you?

www.seobook.com and www.seomoz.org , end of story. Everything else is pretty much crap.
I'm definitely no expert in the SEO world, but I did a quick google search and came across some great content to help you out. Here is a great article to get you started http://www.turnerdow.co.uk/seo-SEO-Fundamentals.htm
Two of the main rules that I've heard through the grape vine are: 1. Have quality content on your site. Great content will bring back the same customers over and over again. 2. Make sure your tags line up correctly with good keywords. Google adwords is a great tool to mess around with. It will allow your company to rank in specific categories that you participate in.
Hope my two cents helped.

There is a science to search engine optimazation. It's been a long time since I dealt with it regularly, but when I did, there was a small company called WebTrends that had an inexpensive program that compared your desired search strings with competitor, and told you what the difference was between your pages and theirs, with suggestions on how to improve your results.
It's a constant cat and mouse game between the search engines, and the SEO companies. Content is king as they say. I'd research programs out there that do SEO, and look at their blogs and forums for some quick tips on what you can do to improve your web site's rankings.
Hi Jeff, My site has been up since 1998 and I've been studying this most of that time. I have had some success thanks to the following sites:
http://www.highrankings.com/ - Lots of free info and she will answer your email questions at no charge. I would suggest subscribing to the free newsletter.
http://www.jimnovo.com/ - this site will help if you are looking to develop repeat customers.
http://www.marketingexperiments.com/ - An amazing site. The take real companies and real money and track everything and give it to us free. Free seminars, reports, studies. A major league help to every web master.
http://webdesign.about.com/od/seo/Search_Engine_Optimization_SEO.htm - If you do decide to pay someone here are some guidelines of what to look for.
Best of Luck.. there is a learning curve.
Guy is correct. Quality is king. Google wants to provide its customers with the highest quality experience, so their algorithm calculates which sites represent the greatest quality. It is pretty good at it, too.
Tip: put your search terms in the URL, if possible.
