Where can you purchase a USB phone?

I’m looking for an actual phone handset to plug into the USB port of my computer. I’d prefer to try the phone before purchase (which is why I haven’t run to Amazon yet), but I don’t know where to look. The sales person at my local Best Buy had no idea what I was talking about. Can you purchase USB phones at an office supply store, or is it best to order online and pay the return shipping fee if I need to send it back?

You mention a Handset, and you also mention a phone. In my world, those are two different things. There are handsets available, try Eutectics, they have a nice one, but it will have to be ordered. http://www.eutecticsinc.com/index.html.

Also, have you considered a USB Headset, Plantronics make some real nice ones, which will give you some freedom, with either a longer cord, or cordless.

If this is for a softphone, some have the ability to have a regular phone tethered to it. Now this might sound silly, to have the softphone and the hardphone at the same desk, and working together, but hear me out. The fidelity on a hard phone simply can't be matched with a softphone IMO. However, there are features on a softphone that are easy to get to - like click to call. So, have your cake and eat it too - have a softphone, tethered to a hard phone. My favorites are Voice Operator Panel and a good HD Polycom phone.

There are some USP phones available as well. I've never seen them in stores, but widely available for ordering on the net.

Try your telephone vendor as well, they may be able to set you up with a demo phone in the hopes of earning your long term business.

Tim, why are you seeking a USB phone? If you provide a few more details of what you are doing, we can advise you better. Your choices can be;

1) Soft phone on your PC/MAC with wired or wireless headset
2) SIP (soft client) on your iPhone
