Where do you find good a notebook sale?
I’m looking for a very cheap notebook for use when I travel. Something that is lightweight and has some decent screen real estate. Where do you find good sales on notebooks? Is it best to go through a direct vendor, or do shopping websites (shopping.com, amazon, etc.) offer a good enough selection?

It really depends on what you are looking for out of the computer. If all you need is web browsing and word processing I would consider an iPad. Sounds weird but it is super easy to travel with and the battery life is outstanding. I use mine with a bluetooth keyboard for longer emails but other than that all I need it the touchscreen. If that isn't the direction you want to go you should wait for Google to release their ChromeOS netbooks which are supposed to be in the sub $400 price range.
