When it comes to monitoring and aggregating conversations (buzz) and sentiment over time, there are a lot of great (paid for) platforms that can help. I've used the following for my clients successfully in the past: Vocus Social Media Monitoring, Alterian SM2, BurrellesLuce Engage121, Sysomos and Sentiment Metrics (out of the UK). Of course, Radian6 and Lithium are also powerful engines for monitoring. When it comes to the free tools, then that's a little tougher. Alterian SM2 used to have a freemium platform that monitored across social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogs, etc.), but they recently discontinued the service). I've come across Wildfire, although, I have played around with it yet. Of course, there are a lot of free tools that you can piece together for a more complete picture, i.e., Hootsuite, Klout, BoardReader, BackType, SocialMention, Monitor This, etc.

What is your opinion of XeeMe? I have just begun to use it, not sure it is the "one" site, but it sure does have a lot of sites it monitors.

Good Question,

Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn are the main sites companies must be on. Is there one social site that monitors and helps keep track of all of the Social media sites. There are other social sites that will help depending on the industry and users.
I am looking for is one site that will manage all the social media sites. Klout helps you recognize how your social media experience is going for most of major social sites. Namyz is a tool I am checking out to monitor most social networks. TweetDeck is another that might have potential. The problem with social sites like Namyz and Klout is that they do not have every social media site listed. None of them have Focus.

Companies must either be on every site they can, which helps rankings. But some site target more customers are better for business. There is a lot of trial and error here. The online industry is growing too fast and it will take a while for it to level out in this economy.

There are many tools available it just depends on your budget and needs which one you opt for. Hootsuite, sendible, sprout social are nice starting points for management. Of course there are enterprise level tools as well.

Other than claiming company name I would focus on networks relevant to my market vs. the everywhere everything model.

Idea, set up a posterous micro blog it allows you to add in your socials and accounts including custom fields and has post broadcast feature, than hook that up to your analytic for measurement..

It's really all about your customers, platforms, and requirements as the tools all have a slightly different focus and the best tool is based on your requirements. Here http://bit.ly/HAA335 is a tag cloud of over 200 vendors in the SMM, SCRM, Social and Customer Experience Management spaces.

If you are looking for a free social media monitoring tool, take a look at Brand Monitor: http://brandmonitor.position2.com/. Available in 4 editions, including a completely free Basic Edition with no time constraints. Brand Monitor is great for tracking conversations, gauging sentiment and share of voice, getting a dashboard of mentions and also has Twitter and Facebook functionality built in.
