I would say hands down Infor is one of the most important mid-market ERP vendors for manufacturers. Infor is changing the way traditional ERP works. "Survival of the fastest" is the new law of business success. Where once companies could expect to be industry leaders for an average of 50 years, now it's unlikely they'll continue to be significant for even 25 years. With change happening so quickly, you can't afford to be limited to a pace or pattern dictated by software vendors as much as 20 to 30 years ago. Business software from Infor is shattering
the usual complexity and rigidity of legacy technologies.
They are providing purpose built ERP systems with industry suites that provide a complete solution, a platform to reimagine enterprise software, and a user experience that will change the way work is done.

it seems that you need an objective answer (not provided by a vendor) :)
Yes, Infor is an important player, even though the statement "changing the way traditional ERP works" doesn't really say much about them. Epicor is definitely another strong player, and Epicor 9 is not only user friendly, but also offers strong functionality for manufacturing. IFS Applications is also worth considering.
Sage ERP X3 is a good option for mid-sized manufacturers, and so is Plex Online for those ready to embrace the cloud. Microsoft AX, but also GP, depending on the segment of the mid-market we're talking about (GP for lower and AX for upper mid-market).
Focusing on the lower mid-market segment, even though they also have larger customers, are SYSPRO, abas, QAD, Sage ERP MAS 500, CDC, Pronto, Exact Software, and others.
And, of course, Oracle and SAP, which can offer anything for anyone (at least in theory) :)
One source to answer that is the latest (Dec 2010) Gartner mid-market magic quadrant - they list 14:

SYSPRO is a must for this list.
Totally focused at mid-market manufacturers
14500 licensed companies, 50+ Countries
A 30+ year company delivering the latest Microsoft .Net technology. Extremely functional and customizable. A single DNA product all modules developed by SYSPRO.

Not sure I agree with all of the commentary about Infor... All I can say is that in the mid-market space every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tier vendor sells there. I think Gabriel offered a great answer...
Because of the fragmentation and competition in the mid-market there are two details which are important first:
1. How do you define importance for manufacturers; in other words what is important to the buyer of the ERP product?
2. How do you define mid-market?
If it is job shop / engineer to order maybe one of the pure plays. If it is extended supply chain functionality, and the ability to fairly seamlessly interact with other vendors up and down stream then it will be SAP or Oracle with their significant marketplace footprint.
If the definition is related to gross sales or number of installs then it is likely SAP or Oracle. For cloud adoption probably something like NetSuite. I'm not that familiar with Lawson but they would probably enter into the equation somewhere as well. Microsoft's Great Plains / Dynamics would also have to be considered.
In other words, it really depends on the criteria of what is important to the customer segment they are selling into and how you define "importance" rather than a specific product option for a very general question. 10 years ago this question would have been fairly easy, it would have likely come down to JDE, and to a lesser extent PeopleSoft. Today the mid-market has a LOT of competition from virtually every ERP vendor.
