Who do you think is the best smb telephony vendor?
We made the decision to implement an IP telephony system last year and have been pretty happy with it, though it was more expensive than it should have been. I'm curious to know who you think is the best SMB telephony vendor. Who offers a solid product catered toward small businesses combined with great customer service and a good price? Thanks

At face value, I would just respond in terms of phone systems. I can't tell you which ones specifically are the best, since I'm an analyst and not a buyer. However, the ones with the best focus on SMB - which itself is a broad segment - would be Mitel, Shoretel and Aastra. You should also give a good look at some of the leading IP phone vendors as well, such as snom, Grandstream, Linksys and Polycom. Finally, among the legacy vendors, Avaya probably has the best SMB offering.
I'll leave it at that and see what others have to say. This discussion can get a lot more involved if we start to go beyond basic VoIP.
The latest report Unified Communications for the SMB market, North America rates ShoreTel as "Strong Positive", Avaya and Interactive Intelligence as "Positive" and the rest as "Promising". I would second this assessment and also suggest one of Gartners picks for Hosted UC as Panterra / WorldSmart.
Cisco UC500, Shoretel for the SMB are a good opportunity,
How many phones do you support and are you supporting them in one location or multiple locations. There are two basic options for small business. Depending on the size and scale of your company you might want to also look into a hosted phone solution. If you have less than 30 phones I would recommend looking into Vocalocity, 8x8 or Aptela. Or if you want to go the premise based hardware route then ShoreTel and Avaya are both great vendors to look into as well.
Check out www.Bandwidth.com, we offer IP Voice, hosted VOIP, data, and managed network services. We own our IP voice network and our 24/7/365 customer service is handled in house.
At www.phonebooth.com you can get a free business number and try out our hosted VOIP service with no cost to you. If it works out, contact me about the next level, Phonebooth on demand.
Virtually all office phone systems are bought through dealers who handle not only the sale but also the installation and programming. As a result, finding a reliable office phone dealer can be the most important part of the purchase.
The most important consideration in choosing a dealer is the number of installations the dealer has completed with your system. A dealer will be much more familiar with the different problems that might occur if they have installed many of the same systems. Ideally, the brand you are considering should be the dealer's best seller.
