Who makes the best anti spyware software?

Symantec and McAfee are the two biggest IT security companies on the market, but do they really make the best anti-spyware software out there? What do you think of VIPRE, or Spyware Doctor? Are they worth the money?

The following links will go a long way to answering your question. The first link is a review and ranking of the top 22 anti virus packages. Symantec and McAfee are not in the top three. Symantec is ranked 4th and McAfee is down at #13. VIPRE is even further down at #17. None of the three packages ranked the highest are very expensive and you should be satisfied with either of the three.

You did not specify whether you were evaluating based on business or personal use. I have had exceptional success with the FREE version of AVG 9.0 I have it running on all my home computers and also on my business systems. I have been utilizing AVG for over three years with no mal-ware infection that was not caught by the software. http://free.avg.com/gb-en/download.prd-afg

I have had good experiences with AVG, Kaspersky, Symantec Endpoint and AD-AWARE. They all provide both anti-Spyware/malware and Anti Virus.
AVG and AD-AWARE have free packages.
Kaspersky's advantage is that it uses very little memory/overhead.
Symantec Endpoint - Is the solution that I see most businesses use. It's downside is that it can be a memory hog.

Bottom line, in my opinion, the free ones are just as good as the corporate ones.

I was asking for both, business and personal use. You have provided me with enough valuable information for both areas. Thanks for the links and website reviews. I will be sure to check them out.

You both brought up an interesting point/question. Are free spywares just as efficient as paid spywares? And what are the differences between the two then?

Thanks for your feedback.
