Why use an internet phone service?

I have a small business and a lot of people have been trying to convince me to switch my current phone system over to an internet phone system. What are the benefits to making phone calls over the internet? I don’t dial international, and I have unlimited local & long distance on my current plan. Why else would I consider using one of these kinds of services?

Anthony,

It's all about cost and flexibility. You do pay up front for all the new equipment, but over time your costs go down. The flexibility comes from being able to control many aspects of your phone service that traditional land-line service does not provide or charges you for. However, unless you know of specific phone communications scenarios that you want, but can't get, I would hold off on switching over. Reliability is still an issue. We have held back because of potential outages since our phone lines are vital to our business.

Don't switch if the only change is your calls going over the internet as opposed to your land lines. The advantage of using a lot of the Internet phone services out there is that they can provide you with a whole "phone system" without having to buy big hardware for your wiring closet.

The major decision making factors should really be:

- do you need to upgrade your current phone system because you are in need of some features like voIcemail, follow me calling, auto-attendant, or emailing your voicemails to you?

- do you have some employees that work out of the office and can't be an extension on your phone system as a result?

- do you suffer from some callers getting a busy signal every once in awhile?

- do you need a toll free number?

If you answered yes to any of the above you might be a good candidate for a virtual phone system. Feel free to call my company, Virtual PBX, at 888-825-0800 option 1 and one of our sales team will answer all of your questions.

Thanks,

One thing I love: dual ring. My office phone and cell phone ring at the same time, and I use the one closest to me. Make sure the company voice mail kicks in before the cell voice mail so you keep all message in the same place. And an Internet phone service makes that easy to do as well, and can transcribe and email your messages to you.
