Will Facebook Places have any impact for non B2C companies?
If Facebook opens up Places to allow people to check-in to virtual events, I see a ton of value for B2B companies, but who knows if that will happen. While we all wait and see if they will open the door to us is it worth spending much time on?

I think Places and other location-based social networking (Foursquare) will impact B2B even before virtual events are added. Besides adding your physical office location, you can also add the location of seminar events, tradeshow booths, meetings, and so on. This leads to the option to conduct location based marketing campaigns and check-in contests. Check out http://geotoko.com/.
Hi Paul and Eric! I'm joining the party a little late, but wanted to jump in on this discussion since its directly related to what I do.
As Paul mentioned, there is a TON of value in allowing users to check-in to virtual locations. However...Foursquare, Facebook Places, Gowalla and others only apply to local businesses with a physical location. For online businesses and e-commerce websites - location based check-in tools don't translate.
That's why my team and I spent the last 6 months building stopped.at (http:stopped.at). Stopped.at is, in essence, Foursquare for Online and Virtual Locations. Users check-in to their favorite websites, earn points for sharing their online location with friends, and use those points to unlock deals from the websites they check-in to the most.
The wait is up for Facebook Places to expand the platform and allow people to check in to online locations and virtual events. Just drag the stopped.at 'check-in' button to your bookmark toolbar and let the online check-ins begin :)
Visit our website at http:stopped.at and let me know what you think (we went live this past Monday and plan to make a big PR splash in the next few weeks). I would LOVE to hear your thoughts and feedback. CHEERS!
