Will the internet evolve into something more than web pages?

Are we already at the maximum efficiency for information delivery?

That sure depends on who you talk to. Sure is a BIG topic, and it relevance, not just on Focus.com, but in our daily lives.

Web pages are static and lack intelligence - that's the exact opposite of what the Web really should be about. Ideally, we use it to build or share with others - and build communities where time and space aren't barriers.

The Web can also be a great source of intelligence - only if you get beyond the quagmire of....stuff (for lack of a better word)- "content" - which is supposed to be "information", but it's getting harder to tell when it's advertising or product placement instead.

I would say the vast majority never get out of this swamp - there's just too much stuff out there for us make any sense of. For those of us who do - either by sheer willpower, or with the aid of content management/data mining software, there's a lot of intelligence to be gleaned - but it sure isn't easy.

Most of us just take the path of least resistance and use the Internet in the simplest way possible - either as time-wasting entertainment or doing lazy research to track down "information". After all, it's free, so really, what do you expect?

As you can tell, I'm rather cynical about the Web, but I love it when it's working for you. Problem is, the ones with the most to gain - Google, Amazon, Facebook, etc. - know way more than the rest of us about how to really leverage the Web. It's a bit like going to Vegas - very tempting, lots of eye candy, and occasionally we'll get the odd goodie out of it. But over time, the house always wins - so for all the benefit you derive, the masters of the Web gain it back a hundred times over.

Anyone care to jump in - or all over me? :-)
