If you boil the cloud down to its underlying processes, it means that more and more firms are putting more and more of their sensitive data in the ether. No matter how encrypted that data is or whatever other whiz-bang procedures are used by "cloud" firms, anything in the ether can be and, sooner or later, will be compromised.

The security measures raise the bar for those who would break in, but they don't remove it, and there are plenty of groups around the world who can and will break into virtually everything.

If we forget that fact and begin believing too much the industry's hype about security, we will find ourselves living in a glass house.
