sure, unless the brand is something I really don't want to be associated with. I do this for the charity, not the brand. I may unlike the page afterwards too!
Definitely. It's an easy way to support a cause that you agree with.
Absolutely! Andrew- I'm curious if any brands are doing this? Do you know of any specific examples?
This is a great way for businesses to build their Facebook following, but they need to make sure that their "cause" or "favored non-profit" has a mission closely aligned with their marketing campaign or product/service. For example, if a business were manufacturing specific computer peripheral products that would be great for people with disabilities, a "like" on their Facebook page could lead to donations to a blindness charity or a specific project provided to a charity where people are taught how to use the new assistive technology. The key is alignment - so that Facebook users understand the connection.
I agree, I think this is a solid strategy and could be quite worthwhile. If I am familiar with the cause and passingly so with the brand, then I may even be willing to Like a brand that I normally would not solely for the altruistic benefit.
Debbie makes a great case, as well, vision alignment is important. Without clarity in the reasoning behind the charitable giving, any sense of goodwill toward the brand would quickly be absolved.
