Your Opinion: Who are the top business intelligence companies right now?

Business intelligence has been a trending topic this year, and a lot of different software vendors are starting to incorporate BI elements into their products. In your opinion, who are the top business intelligence companies right now? Who has the innovation, and which companies should we be watching over the next few months?

There is definetely 'best for me/someone', and not best overall. It depends on several key points, like what do you want to accomplish with implementation of BI, do you want to have more reports distributed, or do you want more to analyse data with ad-hoc queries. Do you want to build dashboards visible via web as so on.
There are several big vendors like SAP Business Objects, IBM Cognos...
But I am glad you asked
"Who has the innovation, and which companies should we be watching over the next few months"
My oppinion is to look at smaller but inovative vendors because they built their solution in-house and they usually make consistent BI tool.
Look for Tableau or LogiXML.

The answer is of course, it depends!

Are you looking for an integrated solution or an add-on. Integrated means it comes with the CC software and you should look for ease of use, easy to produce and run reporting, being able to report and analyze on the 'whole call experience' and its segments.

For add-on, the big guys mentioned in earlier answers are the de facto standards, being the conglomeration of the industry as a whole.

Two companies worth a look are:

Jaspersoft - www.jaspersoft.com

and

Microstrategy - www.microstrategy.com

I work for neither company BTW!

I think that Alterian (SM2) could be a really cool company to watch. I sat through a demo on their Social Media Intelligence tool - SM2 - and there is a tremendous amount of information that can be sliced and diced a lot of ways. I'll start using it towards the end of next week, and you are more than welcome to reach out to explore my experience.

Forgive me, but does that answer your question?

in my opinion, we can not have a general statment saying that 'xyz' company is the top BI technology provider. the business size and requirements plus BI consultants only tell you where to go.

luckly we have varieties for vendors but also this is not enough you shoul align your bi needs with the company strategies.

Adaptive Planning has a nice SaaS solution, Actuate and Information builders as well. I have researches over 20 BI companies, but I always look from the point of user friendly interface, simple training materials and integration with ERP, TCO and short time of implementation

Forrester released a report earlier this week on the various vendors, and Actuate BIRT led the way in Open Source BI. The report can be read here http://bit.ly/cDi4BB
