Highlights

There is no doubt about it - cloud computing is set to fundamentally alter the lifecycle associated with software applications. As the cloud brings agility, it promises to make development faster. As the cloud lowers costs, it promises to alter the long-term application deployment lifecycle. But while traditional applications can be hosted in the cloud, taking advantage of new capabilities can require some changes in both the development process and application architecture. In this session we discussed these and other topics dealing with deploying applications into the cloud.

This event was part of Focus Cloud Week (June 27-30, 2011), which was a series of free webinars and roundtable panels that explored the business drivers prompting the migration to the cloud, the challenges, and the experiences of pioneering adopters. Dave is making a very Good point. These ideas stemmed in SOA, where an API would be part of a supply chain for an application. The problem is there is no consistent contract mechanism in this API supply chain. Evolution in this area would be needed.

If the cloud is only about non-critical applications, I think we are missing the point.

This discussion can only be applied to non-critical applications, like facebook or twitter. I'd hate the see a medical application be applied to the same standard of software development as being described.
